Environmental Leader (12/11/15) Henry, Karen
Building owners and key decision makers this year will invest in a wide variety of smart building solutions based on the Internet of Things and cloud computing, according to a Navigant Research white paper. Navigant says 10 trends will come to mirror the maturing facilities industry and the drive for more intelligent buildings, including the delivery of additional benefits besides energy efficiency by building energy management systems (BEMS). Other predicted trends include the redefinition of buildings as energy assets thanks to the energy cloud, building efficiency fueled by climate change policy, intelligent buildings optimizing the occupant experience, and the market being disrupted by innovative financing opportunities. In addition, cybersecurity will be a core differentiator between intelligent building solutions, hardware and software analytics will enhance health in buildings, and intelligent building water management will become a priority for innovators. Finally, smart cities will lead to the development of intelligent buildings, and electric utilities and energy providers will accelerate BEMS investment.
