FMCSA Launches Campaign to Alert Public on Driving Safely Around Trucks

Tuesday, September 6, 2016

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has launched a new campaign to raise public awareness of how to drive around large trucks and buses. The campaign, "Our Roads, Our Responsibility," offers several tips to drivers sharing the road with commercial vehicles. U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx says, "These commercial vehicles also carry additional safety risks, so it's critical that all road users understand how to safely share the road." These include staying out of the "no zones" or blind spots around the front, back, and sides of the vehicles; anticipating wide turns; and staying focused on the road around you, among other things. FMCSA also has created graphics to go along with the campaign and provides a list of state-by-state crash data involving commercial vehicles. FMCSA Administrator Scott Darling says the campaign supports the agency's mission of "reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities involving commercial motor vehicles on our roadways."
