Louisville Home Buyers, Sellers Can Now Get Better Info on 'Green' Features

The Greater Louisville Association of Realtors has added eight new search fields to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) to help prospective buyers identify homes with environmentally friendly features and certifications. The new search fields also help sellers market their investments in energy efficiency, according to Kentucky U.S. Green Building Council director Nancy Church. Louisville's MLS is one of approximately 300 of the 860 MLS systems in the U.S. that includes green search options. My Green Kentucky Home builder Sy Safi says the new fields make his work more relevant. The new MLS fields started with quantifiable features, such as third-party green certifications to help alleviate real estate agents' concerns they would be liable for promising features that could not be proven. Church says further work is needed to train lenders and appraisers on the value of green features so the homes can be valued accurately.
