NLBMDA prepares comments to OSHA’s proposed Safety and Health Guidelines

Monday, February 22, 2016

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently extended its public comment period for the proposed update of the agency's Safety and Health Program Management Guidelines from Feb. 15 to Feb. 22, and the agency plans to hold an all-day roundtable discussion on the proposed guidelines on March 10. The guidelines, which are advisory and do not create any new legal obligations, were updated to reflect modern technology and practices regarding the creation of health and safety management plans in workplaces. OSHA's plan to modernize the guidelines has been called a step in the right direction, but experts worry that they do not do enough to address realities in today's workplaces, including a higher prevalence of multiemployer worksites. NLBMDA will be submitting comments by the deadline and NLBMDA encourages members to share their insights with Frank Moore, NLBMDA Regulatory Counsel at frank@dealer.org.
