Friday, March 18, 2016

A proposed code change (G170) for the use of fire retardant treated (FRT) wood in Type III (and Type IV) construction was defeated during the recent International Code Council (ICC) 2018 code development process. The change would have had a significant impact on the traditional use of wood components that are fire retardant treated. While G170 was defeated Feb. 8-21 during the 2015 Group A Online Governmental Consensus Vote (OGCV), the ICC said, "These results are not final as they are subject to certification by the Validation Committee and confirmation by the ICC Board in accordance with Section 10.1 of CP 28 Code Development.
