Builder (10/10/17) Brown, Kathleen

The U.S. Green Building Council has named Koral and Gobuty Development Power Builder of the Year for its development of a 55-plus active adult community in West Bradenton, Fla. Qualifying developers are required to have LEED-certified homes comprise more than 90 percent of their portfolio, and all 95 existing Mirabella community homes as well as the 65 yet to be built or sold have been designed in compliance with the highest LEED sustainability standards. Among the villas' features are energy-efficient insulation, appliances, windows, lighting, paint, and air conditioning, while new and current Mirabella home owners can opt for a solar package allowing eligible villas to achieve net-zero energy. "We have committed to ensuring that no detail is forgotten, as we strive for every home to be as environmentally conscious and energy efficient as possible," says developer Marshall Gobuty. "By doing so, we've been awarded LEED certification as well as ENERGY STAR and HERS certifications." Gobuty notes making the Power Builder list is especially gratifying for the developer in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. "Even more rewarding was our homes' ability to withstand the strong winds and rain of Hurricane Irma," he says. "That's a testament to our hard work, design, and application of the principles that the USGBC has in place surrounding LEED.”
